Alder Commons is a nonprofit community space where kids and adults alike can attend workshops and classes, and spend their time freely. Our Members include coworkers, artists, organizations, families, and self-directed learners of all ages. Members pay a sliding scale monthly fee. In exchange, Members unlock access to our facilities (kitchen, woodshop, co-working, playroom, etc), access to Members-only programs and events, and access to our online workspaces (slack, email lists, and online directory). Our goal is to foster a multigenerational, multicultural community that practices and promotes our Core Values of Self-Determination, Collective Liberation, and Community Support.

We’re looking for a Membership Coordinator to be the face and representative of the Organization, welcoming, onboarding, and maintaining relationships with new and existing members of Alder Commons. Your days will be a mix of organizing member events, answering questions, and ensuring every member feels valued. You’ll foster an inclusive environment, nurture community connections and cultivate shared experiences.

  • Respond to membership interest inquiries
  • Follow up on incomplete onboarding
  • First month check-ins with new members
  • Follow up with members regarding payment
  • Iterate and update member-related policies, agreements and guides
  • Being present to hold space during open hours, typically 10:30 - 6:30 and occasional weekend days

  • Manage existing memberships and maintain member relationships
  • Manage membership-related contacts
  • Advise Executive Director on recruitment and growing membership base
  • Advise ED and staff on establishing and maintaining membership goals
  • Advise on member retention strategy and space usage
  • Collect, assess and present member feedback
  • Optimize membership satisfaction

  • Encourage develop, coordinate and host member programming
  • Coordinate member space reservations in collaboration with the Program Director
  • Host open houses
  • Support members to navigate relationships, problem solving; facilitate conflict resolution using Restorative Justice framework (training will be provided)
  • Coordinate and facilitate Culture Committee and meetings with member groups
  • Lead effort to train members to hold space and policies at visitor programs.

  • Assist in marketing and promotional efforts, including posting on appropriate Social Media channels to advertise upcoming events
  • Manage membership engagement through proactive communications (with email and programs like Slack)
  • Table at local events

  • Bilingual Spanish / English
  • 3 years of experience with customer support roles
  • Passionate about, and committed to practicing our Core Values
  • Excited to spend time with people of all ages and backgrounds in a consent-based environment
  • Experience and enthusiasm supporting youth learners, programming and children’s play
  • Professional or lived experience in mixed-age and/or multicultural environments
  • Experience using or willingness to learn organizational tools and systems such as Google Drive/Suite, Slack, Canva and Google Analytics
  • Experience with nonprofit strategic marketing a plus

Link to this section COVID-19 Risk Reduction

We are taking precautions to reduce the spread of COVID at Alder Commons and in the greater community. Alder Commons Members collectively decided to adopt our COVID-19 Policy, which, as of August 29, 2023, includes the following:

  • Requiring the use of masks indoors for anyone 2-years-old and older (masks not required outdoors)
  • Maximum capacity for each room (20 people per large room, with exception for 30-person max for the lounge)
  • Strongly encouraging, but not requiring, vaccines for Members
  • Asking Staff and Members to self-isolate if they or anyone in their household is experiencing COVID symptoms, has tested positive, or has been exposed to someone with COVID

All Alder Commons Staff Members are required to provide proof of vaccination or a valid medical or religious exemption. This is an in-person role that will include close interactions with people of all ages and backgrounds. The vaccine requirement prioritizes the safety of both the Community Kitchen Manager and the larger community.
